Can I Use Fresh Peaches instead of Canned?

Yes, you can make this peach cobbler using fresh peaches to make this peach cobbler recipe. But, before using fresh sliced peaches, place them in water and sugar and bring to a boil for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat, reserving about three quarter cups of the peach water.

Continue with recipe directions as usual.

Can I Use Cake Mix to Make Peach Cobbler?

Yes, you can use cake mix to make peach cobbler. Just make the cake batter as per the directions on the packaging.

What's the difference between cobbler and dump cake?

Actually both are the same, except dump cake is usually always made with cake mix from a box.

This peach cobbler can be made anytime of the year and is the perfect dessert if you have an abundance of fresh peaches. Otherwise if you used canned peaches, it would turn out just as good.

These are the ingredients you'll need for your peach cobbler

  • Butter
  • Canned Peaches
  • Brown Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • All Purpose Flour
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Baking Powder
  • Milk

How to Make Peach Cobbler with Canned Peaches

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Open both cans of peaches and reserve the liquid from one can only. Place peaches and liquid in to baking dish.

Add vanilla, brown sugar and the peaches.

Discard the liquid from the second can of peaches.

In a small bowl combine the dry ingredients for the cake topping. Add butter and using a pastry cutter or your hands mix in the butter.

Add milk to the dry ingredients and mix. Scoop the batter on top of the peaches. Bake for 50 minutes.

Storage

Store unused peach cobbler in its original baking dish covered with plastic wrap. Place leftover cobbler in the refrigerator covered tightly for not longer than 4 to 5 days.

Top tip

Make sure that you use a baking dish that is large enough to hold all of the ingredients. A 1.5 to 2 quart baking dish is needed to make this peach cobbler recipe.

Reserve the liquid of one can of the peaches and discard the liquid of the second can.

Ingredients
  

Filling

  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 28 oz canned peaches 2 small cans
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar

Cake Topping

  • ¼ cup Butter
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Add vanilla, brown sugar and the peaches. Discard the liquid from the second can of peaches.

  • In a small bowl combine the dry ingredients for the cake topping.
    1 cup all purpose flour, ¾ cup sugar, 2 tsp baking powder
  • Add butter and using a pastry cutter or your hands mix in the butter. It's ok if there are still large chunks of butter.
    ¼ cup Butter
  • Add milk and mix.
    ½ cup milk
  • Scoop the batter on top of the peaches. Bake for 50 minutes.

Notes

Using Fresh Peaches

You will need 5 to 6 peaches. Clean, slice and remove the pit of your peaches. Bring 2 cups of water and ½ cup of sugar to a boil in a medium saucepan. Place fresh sliced peaches and boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
Reserve 1 cup of the water to use in the recipe. Drain peaches. Continue with step 1 of the recipe.

Other Tips

Make sure that you use a baking dish that is large enough to hold all of the ingredients. A 1.5 to 2 quart baking dish is needed to make this peach cobbler recipe.
