Feeling Confident Enough to Make Pizza Dough?
Make your sausage pizza with our homemade pizza dough recipe. It's light, airy and perfectly chewy, just like the traditional pizzas. Plus it's easy to prepare ahead of time so you can focus on building your toppings and enjoying a fresh, piping hot pizza straight from the oven.
How to Stretch Store Bought Pizza Dough
Believe it or not, a lot of people find it difficult to stretch store bought pizza dough. Even I had my struggles with stretching pizza dough until I found this trick! And no, it does not involve rolling your dough!
Here is a step by step process that is guaranteed to take your pizza dough struggles from stretch and ripped dough to perfectly stretched dough.
Step 1: Take your packaged pizza dough out of the fridge and leave it on your kitchen counter until it comes to room temperature. Do not remove the dough from the package.
Step 2: Oil your baking sheet (aluminum preferred), with about 2 tbsp of oil (any oil will do).
Step 3: Once your pizza dough reaches room temperature, place it on your greased baking sheet and gently stretch it as far as it will go but don't fight with it! Cover your pizza dough with a damp paper towel so it won't dry out!
Step 4: Let it rest for about 20 minutes.
Step 5: Continue to stretch it as far as you can without tearing it. If necessary, let is sit for another 20 minutes. Cover your pizza dough with a damp paper towel so it won't dry out!
Step 6: Repeat Step 5 until you have stretched it all the way to the edges. Remember to cover your pizza dough with a damp paper towel while it rests.
Step 7: You're ready to top your pizza with your favorite pizza toppings!
If you tried this method, let me know how you did in the comments!

How to Make Italian Sausage Pizza
Prepare a baking sheet by greasing it with oil.
Heat oven to 375℉
Using basting brush, brush the top of the pizza with olive oil, including the edges of the pizza so they get crunchy. Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top. Chop up your tomatoes in to small chunks, drain any liquid. Add garlic.
In a medium bowl, mix together ground pork, salt and fennel seeds.
Stretch your pizza on your baking sheet. Grab little bits of the sausage mixture and place on the pizza dough throughout your pizza, leaving space for the chopped tomato mixture.
Place the tomato mixture on the pizza wherever there is room. Sprinkle oregano on top of the pizza. Sprinkle more salt on top of the pizza (optional).
Bake at 375℉ for 45 minutes or until golden.
Storage:
Leftover pizza stores very well. Wrap it up in aluminum foil and refrigerate for up to 3 to 4 days.
Warm up in the oven or in the toaster oven for about 8 minutes. You can also warm up in the microwave, but it won't have that crispy crunch texture.
Pizza is also suitable for freezing. Thaw and warm up in the oven or toaster oven to crisp it up again.
Top Tips
Try not to add too many wet ingredients on your pizza or it will be soggy. Drain your tomatoes as much as possible.
Stretch, don't roll your dough.
Use the palm of your hand to push the ingredients into the dough so that they don't fall off when eating.
Place your pizza on the middle rack.
Rotate your pizza halfway through baking so that all sides bake evenly.
Let the pizza rest for 2 to 3 minutes before slicing to keep the toppings in place.
Substitutions and Variations
Here are some great substitutions or variations when making sausage pizza:
- Dough - instead of buying the dough, make your own homemade pizza dough
- Sausage - use store bought sausage. Remove the sausage casing and then strategically place chunks on the pizza
- Mozzarella - add mozzarella to your pizza for added cheese flavor
- Gluten Free - use a gluten free pizza dough if you're gluten intolerant
The perfect recipe isn't that far away. I'd love to know how you substituted ingredients to fit your dietary needs. Drop a comment below and let me know!
