- Kale
- Olive Oil
- Salt, Pepper
- Other Seasoning like Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, etc…
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
Using pre-chopped and cleaned kale will save you a lot of time with this recipe. If you need to chop and wash your kale, make sure that your kale is dry before you start prepping them for the oven.
Place about 4 cups of chopped Kale in a bowl.
Combine olive oil, salt, pepper and all spices into a small bowl and mix thoroughly.
Add the oil and seasoning mixture into the larger bowl containing the kale and use your hands to mix the oil and kale together.
Place the seasoned kale onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes. Make sure that your kale chips are spread out and are not over-crowded.
Top tip
Using pre cut kale will cut down the preparation time immensely. To get the crispiest baked kale chips, ensure that you do not over-crowd your baking sheet leave distance between your kale pieces.

Substitutions and Variations for Your Homemade Kale Chips
These Baked Kale Chips can very easily be transformed into any flavor using a combination of ingredients.
- Add Hot Spices - make this hot and spicy by adding cayenne pepper or add cinnamon.
- Make it Chicago Mix - by adding a sweetener like date paste, balsamic glaze, or Maple Syrup or Stevia leaf if your are not on Whole30
- Use Herbs - use herbs like oregano, thyme or rosemary to spice things up. You can also use taco mix as a seasoning for your kale chips.
No matter what spices or ingredients you use, you can create these baked kale chips to make them taste your own.
Equipment
Equipment can have a big impact on how a recipe turns out. I love my Wilton Non Stick Baking sheets and they make great additions to your kitchen equipment.
Parchment paper isn’t a must but it sure makes things easy in terms of easy clean up and food sticking to baking trays. If you are using baking sheets that do not have a non stick coating, then you will want to use parchment paper.

Storage
Store these kale chips in a bowl covered with plastic wrap for up to 3 to 4 days. Since the kale will be fragile and easily fall apart, storing them in a bag is not a good idea.
These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing.
