Instructions, How to Make Chocolate Donuts
For Donuts
Pre-heat oven to 375 F.
Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl. Using a whisk mix dry ingredients until well combined and there are no lumps.
Combine all wet ingredients in another bowl and mix well.
Pour wet ingredients into bowl with dry ingredients and mix well until there are no lumps.
Pour contents into a piping bag. If you don't have a piping bag use a ziploc bag. Cut a slit in the piping bag and pipe out batter into donut pan. Fill donut wholes about ¾ of the way, don't over fill because it will make it hard to remove the donuts from the pan.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Let them cool completely before removing them from the donut pan. Place them on a wire rack.
Chocolate Glaze and Toppings
Combine all dry ingredients into a shallow bowl.
Add melted butter, milk and vanilla a little bit at a time. Combining well.
If the mixture is to dry keep adding butter and milk until the consistency is such that you can dip the donuts into the glaze, but it won't run down the sides.
If you add too much liquid, just add more powdered sugar to thicken it up.
It also helps to microwave for 5 seconds if it gets to thick.
Dip your donuts into the glaze and place on a plate. Top with your favorite topping.
Top tip
If the chocolate glaze is to dense, add more liquid or place in microwave for 5 seconds at a time. Or if the glaze is to thin, place in freezer for 5 minutes or add more powdered sugar to thicken.
Hint: Heat up the glaze or cool it to obtain the right consistency for dipping your double chocolate donuts.
Substitutions and Varitions
Here are some great ideas on how to make this recipe for donuts different:
- Vanilla - eliminate the cocoa powder in both the chocolate donut batter and the glaze to make vanilla dipped chocolate donuts.
- Peanuts - use chopped peanuts as a topping
- Gluten Free Flour - substitute gluten free flour for regular flour and make these double chocolate donuts gluten free.

Equipment
Equipment makes a big impact on your recipe results. It's no exception for these chocolate glazed donuts. You will need a donut baking pan, some measuring cups and spoons and a variety of bowls.

Storage
These chocolate glazed donuts are best consumed on the first or second day you make them. Store them in the refrigerator lightly covered for the first two days. If kept longer they will harden.
These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing once assembled.
However, you could freeze unglazed donuts. When you are ready to glaze them, remove them from the freezer and let thaw in the fridge for 24 hours before glazing.
