Nutella Puff Pastry Turnovers

These Nutella Puff Pastry Turnovers are made with store bought frozen puff pastry. If you don't know what Nutella is it is like a nut butter but made of hazelnut, milk and chocolate. Nutella is a hazelnut spread and this recipe showcases just one recipe with Nutella.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Thaw out your frozen puff pastry dough as per brand directions. (I use PC Butter Puff Pastry sheets 2 in a box)
  • Preheat oven to 375℉
  • Roll out the puff pastry and lay it flat against on a floured surface. Roll to 9.5" x 10.5" if necessary. Cut it in half lengthwise, then cut it into three even sections.
  • Using a basting brush, brush the sides of each square with egg wash.
  • Spoon the Nutella into the centre of each square but don't touch the egg wash. Fold over each square and using a fork press the edges together all the way around to seal the pastry.
  • Transfer the pastry to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat until all the the turnovers are assembled. Prick the top with a fork once to allow steam to escape while baking.
  • Bake for about 20 minutes or until the tops are slightly golden.
  • Remove from oven and once cooled sprinkle powdered sugar on top.

Notes

Top Tips

Freeze the hazelnut spread by placing 1 tbsp of hazelnut spread in each cube compartment of an ice cube tray lined with plastic wrap. No need to thaw when ready, just pop out and place in centre of your dough closer to the outside edge to make folding easier.
Sprinkle flour on a spatula and use the spatula to make it more easy to transfer the assembled pastry to a baking sheet.
